Purple Cow is looking for Civil and Treatment Plant Estimator that is responsible for estimating costs for civil and treatment plant projects. This includes infrastructure projects related to water, wastewater, stormwater systems, and other utilities. The estimator works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to develop accurate cost projections for labor, materials, and other resources required for project
completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- QUANTITY TAKEOFF:
- Perform quantity takeoffs based on project blueprints, specifications, and other construction documents to calculate the required materials and labor for civil works and treatment plants, including water, sewer, force main, drainage, and underground utilities.
- Accurately measure and quantify materials for infrastructure such as water pipes, sewer systems, force mains, stormwater drainage systems and underground utility installations.
- COST ESTIMATION:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil and treatment plant projects, including water, sewer, force main, drainage, and underground utilities. This includes estimating costs for labor, materials, equipment and specialized components for water treatment plants and civil infrastructure.
- Estimate the costs of trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, testing and other activities specific to water, sewer and underground utility systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to refine estimates and ensure they are accurate and aligned with the project scope.
- Use industry-standard estimating software (e.g., ProEst, RSMeans, or similar) and Excel to calculate and compile cost data.
- BID PREPARATION:
- Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring the cost estimate aligns with the project’s requirements, scope, and timeline.
- Compile comprehensive bid packages, including material takeoffs, labor estimates, equipment costs, and any other relevant information for water sewer, force main, drainage, and underground utility systems.
- PROJECT ANALYSIS & RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Analyze historical data, current market trends, and project specifications to ensure the most accurate and competitive estimates.
- Identify potential risks, including cost overruns, delays, and availability of materials, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Assess and suggest value engineering or alternative construction methods to reduce costs without compromising project quality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is often preferred.
- Relevant certifications (such as AACE International or similar) may be advantageous.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in estimating for civil construction or treatment plant projects, including water treatment, wastewater treatment, or stormwater infrastructure.
- Experience in using takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, Takeoff Lite, or similar tools).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD to review and interpret civil and treatment plant drawings, including piping layouts, treatment system components, and site plans.
- Experience in creating or modifying AutoCAD drawings for civil engineering projects, such as utility plans, grading, and drainage design for treatment plants.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering concepts, treatment plant systems, and construction practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, project management software, and estimating tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with large amounts of technical data.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Analytical skills for identifying cost-saving opportunities and potential risks.
- Estimator certification (e.g., AACE Certified Estimating Professional or similar).
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, especially for those working on larger projects.
- Personal Attributes:
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach to estimating and project management.
- Flexibility and adaptability in dealing with changes and project complexities.
