Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in Maintenance: Engine Cadets help with planned maintenance work on various equipment and systems in the engine room, ensuring everything operates efficiently and safely. 2
- Operating Equipment: They assist in operating pumps, fuel systems, electrical generating equipment, air conditioning plants, refrigeration systems, and cranes. 1
- Inspection and Troubleshooting: Cadets are involved in stripping engines and inspecting their components, tracing the paths of oil, water, or steam through the ship’s systems, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. 2
- Record Keeping: They are responsible for taking daily logs of equipment performance and soundings (measuring fluid levels in tanks) to monitor the engine room's operational status. 2
- Safety and Emergency Procedures: Engine Cadets actively participate in safety drills and emergency procedures, ensuring they are prepared for any situation that may arise in the engine room. 1
