POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Batangas City, Philippines
The Forester will provide essential technical and field-based support to the Calumpang Watershed Management Project. Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, the Forester will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of field activities such as, establishment of nurseries, reforestation, and assisted natural regeneration, among other possible activities consistent with the strategies contained in the approved Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) and with the approved pre-IWMP ground interventions. Specifically, the role involves conducting site assessments, recommending appropriate planting strategies, and monitoring the progress of the project in improving the targeted degraded and restoration/rehabilitation areas.
The Forester will assist in collecting, reviewing, and analyzing ecological and technical data, and will help establish and maintain a results-based monitoring and information system to support adaptive management. Additionally, the Forester will support the organization and facilitation of learning events, such as workshops, meetings, and information-sharing sessions.
Lastly, The Forester will contribute to the preparation of technical and progress reports, as well as communication and learning materials that document project outcomes and lessons learned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement field activities consistent with the approved project implementation plan, in coordination with concerned stakeholders;
- Conduct site assessments and recommend appropriate species and silvicultural systems;
- Assess implementation conditions and implement actions to enhance results;
- Establish and maintain results-based monitoring and information systems;
- Provide technical guidance and support to community partners;
- Prepare implementation plans for ground activities;
- Draft technical reports, progress updates, and learning materials; and
- Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, meetings, and learning events. .
- Work collaboratively with the Project Coordinator for the implementation of project deliverables
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is mostly remote and field work within the LGUs covering the Calumpang River Watershed in Batangas Province. It may require travel to CI national office in Metro Manila. May need to work extended hours as needed.
- This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.
- This role will be a one-year fixed-term assignment, anticipated to begin in September 2025 and end in August 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- PRC-registered Forester
- Up to 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in silviculture, agroforestry, forest planning, and NbS designing,
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good technical aptitude and ability to understand and interpret detailed information and data.
- Able to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.
- Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.
- Service focus. Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work efficiently with others.
- Able to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or forestry.
- Up to 2 years of experience working with DENR in resource management, particularly in watershed management
- Up to 2 years of experience working with LGU and local NGOs in the areas of watershed management, silviculture, agroforestry, and NbS designing.
