Role Summary
The Material Program Manager (MPM) plays a key role in bridging Engineering and Supply Chain during product development.
This role ensures that material and sourcing strategies implemented during NPI are fully aligned with Global Commodity Management (GCM) direction.
The MPM is responsible for driving Bill of Material (BOM) cost optimization as early as the RFQ stage and supporting effective supply chain management.
Strong cross-functional coordination and proactive issue escalation are essential to keep schedules and ensure on time deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Cost Management to drive savings that support new business and protect market share during RFQs by providing accurate cost projections and match kit analyses.
- Drive cost-reduction activities to challenge NPI and Mass Production (MP) models when margin is too low or our bid is uncompetitive. Coordinate with GCM and Engineering to explore alternative proposals, evaluate lower-cost technologies, and request negotiation support from GCM to improve cost position.
- Support DFX (Design for Excellence) reviews by providing early input on material readiness, supply risk, part availability, and cost targets — ensuring design decisions consider both technical and supply chain perspectives.
- Align BOM and material readiness across all NPI phases by engaging with key stakeholders:
- NPI Sourcing and Buyers – Ensure quote readiness, qualification documents, sample availability, and prototype build material scheduling.
- GCM Strategy Alignment – Minimize use of legacy or EOL parts, enhance PML and multisource penetration, and arrange technology roadshows.
- GCM and SQE – Coordinate new supplier onboarding and ensure stakeholder alignment and approvals before use.
- Review and approve gate deliverables during key NPI milestones (e.g., Gate 3-KO, Gate 6- IMP).
- Lead MRMR (Material Readiness and Risk) reviews to:
- Monitor part readiness and material risks
- Track PML and multisource penetration
- Provide alternate solutions and risk mitigation plans on the Identified actionable parts (e.g., single-source, non-PML, nearing EOL, NFD, golden screw parts. High cost part ..etc) by aligning with CE and GCM
- Identify material and supply-related risks early, escalate to the appropriate stakeholders, and follow through until resolution.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports covering risk flags, cost-saving activities, and readiness metrics.
- Manage two indirect reports supporting MPM across other engineering sites.
- Leverage iPro, SAP, and Excel to compute BOM savings, manage readiness trackers, and maintain up-to-date dashboards.
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in Material Program Management or related functions (e.g., Supply Chain Program/Project Management)
- Experience in leading material readiness activities from NPI to MP builds
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional coordination with Engineering, GCM, Cost Management, and SQE, and Engineering teams
- Background in semiconductor sourcing, part qualification, and risk mitigation strategies
- Skilled in using dashboards and material trackers; familiarity with SAP or iPro is a plus
Preferred Competencies:
- Strong program or project management background in a manufacturing or electronics environment
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
- Ability to manage escalations independently and ensure issue closure with stakeholders
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrix organization
Note: This position can be filled in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
