A picker is an individual who is responsible for selecting and preparing products for shipment or delivery. The job description of a picker typically includes the following tasks:
- Reviewing customer orders to determine the items to be picked.
- Examining products to ensure that they meet quality standards of the products and ensuring that they have the barcode or reference number correctly.
- Selecting the appropriate items based on the customer order.
- Counting and comparing the quantity of items in the PDA system to secure the number of ordered items are complete before handing-over to packers.
- Reporting any discrepancies or damaged items.
- Operating material handling equipment, such as PDA, movable rack and bins
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Following safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
Requirements:
- Education: high school diploma or equivalent
- Physical ability: The job can be physically demanding and may require standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Attention to detail: Good attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Good communication skills: Pickers may need to communicate with supervisors, team leaders or team members to coordinate work and ensure that production targets are met.
- Basic computer skills: Picker jobs may also require basic computer skills to access inventory systems and track orders.
- Flexibility: Pickers jobs may require working in shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may involve overtime or extended work hours during peak seasons.
