ROLE OVERVIEW: Cosmetic Formulator
As a Cosmetic Formulator, you will lead the development of innovative beauty products, from concept to formulation. You will work on trend-driven product briefs, conduct ingredient evaluations, develop prototypes, and ensure all formulations meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements. This role requires a strong balance of scientific expertise, creative insight, and technical precision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Formulation & Product Development
- Develop and optimize a range of color cosmetics and hybrid skincare products
- Adjust formulations to meet desired texture, skin feel, wear performance etc.
- Ensure compliance with quality, stability, and performance standards
Trend and Ingredient Research
- Research new raw materials, textures, and technologies in the global cosmetic industry
- Assess ingredient efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility for use in product development
- Analyze consumer and market trends to support future product concepts
Documentation and Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain detailed formulation records, raw material documentation, and technical files
- Prepare and review SDS, COA, INCI lists, and other regulatory documentation
- Ensure all formulations meet FDA, ASEAN Cosmetic Directive, and internal safety standards
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with QA, Procurement, Production, and Marketing to align on raw material sourcing, scalability, and go-to-market strategies
- Conduct lab trials and assist in pilot production runs for formula scale-up
- Participate in client meetings, sample presentations, and product development briefings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation (preferably in color cosmetics or hybrid skincare)
- Strong technical understanding of emulsions, dispersions, pigments, active ingredients, and sensory profiling
- Creative thinker with strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skill
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with laboratory documentation systems
- Knowledge of GMP, FDA regulatory processes, and quality control standards is required
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
