Position Overview
We’re seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and proactive Solar Interconnection Specialist to join our operations team. This role is responsible for managing and facilitating the interconnection process with utility companies to ensure timely project approvals and grid connections.
You’ll play a critical role in ensuring our solar projects move from design to activation smoothly—helping more Illinois homes and businesses go solar, faster.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit and manage utility interconnection applications for residential and commercial solar projects
- Serve as primary liaison with utility companies and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction)
- Track and manage application timelines to avoid project delays
- Coordinate with internal design, permitting, and project management teams to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Resolve technical or administrative issues related to interconnection or net metering
- Stay up to date with utility requirements, state regulations, and interconnection policies
- Maintain detailed records and reporting for all interconnection processes
Qualifications
Required:
- 1+ year experience in solar interconnection, permitting, utility coordination, or related solar industry roles
- Strong understanding of solar system components and interconnection requirements
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project tracking tools (e.g., CRM, spreadsheets, project software)
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Illinois utility companies (ComEd, Ameren, etc.)
- Experience with NEM applications, SREC programs, or solar permitting
- NABCEP certification or relevant coursework a plus
