Job Summary:
The SPED Teacher Aide supports the instructional and behavioral goals of students with special needs under the supervision of a special education teacher. This role involves assisting with academic instruction, personal care, behavior management, and classroom organization to help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning objectives introduced by the teacher.
- Support students with special needs in participating in classroom activities.
- Help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) under teacher guidance.
- Monitor and document student progress and behavior, reporting relevant information to the teacher.
- Provide personal care to students as needed.
- Assist in managing student behavior using positive behavior support strategies.
- Prepare instructional materials and classroom supplies.
- Supervise students in various settings (classrooms and pantry).
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and families.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required.
- Provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field with units in SPED Education.
- License is an advantage but not required.
- Relevant experience working with children with special needs is an advantage but not required.
