Job Description
The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.
Seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Tailings Engineer who will be responsible for the integrity, safety, and performance of tailings storage facilities across all stages of their lifecycle, from operation to closure. Working with key stakeholders you will ensure alignment of key dam safety priorities and objectives and influence long-term organization improvements.
Key responsibilities:
- Leading risk identification, mitigation & reporting for tailings infrastructure.
- Ensuring compliance with GISTM & internal safety frameworks.
- Coordinating cross-functional teams on tailings design, construction & maintenance.
- Overseeing water management & surveillance to uphold operational standards.
- Monitor and report on the condition of our TSFs using data from inspections, seismic and deformation monitoring (e.g., InSAR, radar, survey prisms, drone surveys, piezometers, deposition rates).
- Ensure accurate, timely collection and validation of geotechnical data to meet required standards.
- Investigate and report geotechnical incidents or TARP trigger events with urgency and accuracy.
- Conduct inspections to ensure the Tailings Management Plan, OMS manual, and related procedures are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Provide training and technical support to Operational Technicians, Geotechnical Monitoring Technicians, and Emergency Response teams.
- Work with the site teams and design engineer to develop and execute short- and long-term construction and maintenance plans and schedules.
- Work with the consultant to continuously improve and implement the quality assurance and control, construction monitoring, and dam surveillance programs.
- Coordinate activities with Consultants, Processing, Environmental, H&S, contractors and Government Regulators as required.
- Provide updates to operating, maintenance, and surveillance manuals, along with emergency preparedness and response plans, and other management system documents
Qualifications
- Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way;
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering;
- Previous geotechnical experience in tailings storage facilities including design, construction, operation, monitoring and maintenance;
- Demonstrated experience with defining project scope, working across a range of disciplines and navigating organisational complexity;
- Proficiency and familiarity with geotechnical/Civil software including Autocad, Civil 3D, Muk3D, or similar;
- Leading risk identification, mitigation & reporting for tailings infrastructure;
- Ensuring compliance with GISTM, ANCOLD & internal safety frameworks;
- Coordinating cross-functional teams on tailings design, construction & maintenance;
- Overseeing water management & surveillance to uphold operational standards;
- Preferably with a valid Professional Driver’s License and with NC II driving.
