Overall purpose, duties, and responsibilities of the role:

Oversees underwriting processes and provides supervision to junior staff to ensure business unit’s service level agreements are attained.

Leads User-Acceptance-Test activities (UAT) and manages underwriting related systems applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for efficient management of the underwriting team and ensuring smooth processing of new business applications within the set turnaround time.
Appraises and underwrites new business applications accurately for both medical and non-medical cases assessing mortality and morbidity risk as aligned with company’s guidelines and procedures up to Underwriting Approval Authority of Total-Sum-At- Risk of up to Php20 million and up to Total Mortality (TM) rating of 250% including standard, substandard, post/decline risk class for occupation, avocation, and territory
Perform postpone or decline decision of cases within authority limit
Provides guidance to the underwriters for complicated or difficult cases, or beyond senior underwriters’ authority limits
Conduct underwriting training for junior levels and other business units
Participate in the review of UW guidelines and conduct benchmarking as necessary
Liaise with reinsurance partners on underwriting cases
Perform underwriting audit for junior levels
Assist in the claim’s appraisal
Lead User-Acceptance -Test (UAT) activities and ensures its accurate and timely delivery.
Participates in cross-functional projects to develop new/enhanced systems, processes, programs to support achievement of company’s objectives

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

Strong leader with experience in supervising a team in financial services or insurance industry
Graduate of Bachelor's degree either in, Social Science/ Sociology, Medical Science, Nursing or its equivalent.
5 years or more of relevant working experience in life underwriting
Strong accuracy and multi-tasking skills
Strength of character to provide recommendations or communicate issues
Ability to effectively collaborate with the team and other departments
Computer literacy in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Good in written and verbal communication skills
Taken and Passed LOMA education (LOMA 280 and LOMA 290)
With existing medical underwriting authority of Php15-20M with substandard rating for at least 5 years

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: Php60,000.00 - Php70,000.00 per month
