JOB OVERVIEW
Merlin Solar, a fast-growing, post-revenue renewable energy startup at the forefront of specialty solar panel and integrated electrical system solutions, is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Asia Regional Operations Head. This pivotal role will lead our global manufacturing and supply chain operations, driving efficiency, scalability, and excellence as we transition from high-SKU, low-volume production to high-volume manufacturing with integrated automation.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Asia Regional Operations Head will be physically present in our captive manufacturing sites and Contract Manufacturer (CM) plants frequently and persistently, providing hands-on leadership to plant managers and supply chain teams. This role demands a strong engineering background, exceptional supply base development skills, and the ability to act as both a diplomat and a task force commander, adapting leadership styles to achieve critical objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Strategic Operations Leadership
· Develop and execute a global operations strategy that aligns with Merlin Solar's rapid growth trajectory, focusing on scalability, cost optimization, quality, and on-time delivery across all manufacturing sites (captive and CMs).
B. Manufacturing Excellence
· Oversee and optimize production processes for specialty solar panels, electrical systems, and wire harnesses, both in Merlin's captive facility and at CM partners.
· Lead the implementation of automation initiatives within manufacturing to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) across all operational aspects.
· Ensure robust quality control systems are in place and consistently adhered to, guaranteeing the highest standards for Merlin Solar products.
C. Global Supply Chain Management
· Develop and manage a robust global supply chain strategy, including supplier identification, qualification, negotiation, and performance management.
· Build strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers and contract manufacturers, driving performance and identifying opportunities for mutual growth.
· Mitigate supply chain risks, including geopolitical, logistical, and quality-related challenges.
· Optimize inventory management and logistics to support high-volume production and minimize lead times.
D. Team Leadership & Development
· Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of plant managers and supply chain professionals across multiple Asian locations.
· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and problem-solving within the operations team.
· Provide direct, on-the-ground support and guidance to local teams, ensuring operational objectives are met.
E. Engineering & Innovation Integration
· Collaborate closely with engineering and R&D teams to ensure seamless transition of new product designs into manufacturing, optimizing for manufacturability and cost.
· Provide critical operational insights to inform product development and engineering decisions.
F. Problem Solving & Crisis Management
· Act as a hands-on problem solver, addressing operational bottlenecks, quality issues, and supply chain disruptions with urgency and efficacy.
· Serve as a "task force commander" when critical issues arise, mobilizing resources and driving rapid resolution.
· Cultivate strong relationships with local stakeholders, including government officials and community leaders, when necessary, acting as a "diplomat" to navigate complex situations.
G. Reporting & Performance Management
· Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing, supply chain, and quality.
· Provide regular, comprehensive reports to executive leadership on operational performance, challenges, and strategic initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or similar) required; Master's degree preferred.
· 15+ years of progressive experience in global operations, manufacturing, and supply chain management within a fast-paced, high-growth environment, preferably in renewable energy, electronics manufacturing, or a related industry.
· Proven track record of managing both captive manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers in Asia.
· Deep expertise in implementing and scaling automation in manufacturing environments.
· Strong background in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
