Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Merchant Services Underwriter to evaluate risk and make informed decisions on new merchant account applications. You will assess the creditworthiness, business type, financials, processing history, and compliance of prospective merchants to determine whether to approve, pend, or decline accounts based on established underwriting criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze merchant processing applications, including supporting documentation such as bank statements, credit reports, processing statements, and business licenses.
- Assess risk associated with the merchant’s industry, chargeback history, processing volumes, and financial stability.
- Conduct due diligence using third-party tools (e.g., Experian, LexisNexis, MATCH list, Google, social media, Better Business Bureau).
- Communicate with agents or merchants to gather missing information and clarify red flags.
- Make approval, pended, or decline decisions according to underwriting guidelines and risk policies.
- Recommend appropriate pricing, reserves, or account restrictions when warranted.
- Collaborate with compliance, risk, and operations teams to ensure adherence to card network regulations (Visa, Mastercard) and internal policies.
- Document all findings clearly and maintain accurate underwriting records in the CRM or underwriting system.
- Stay informed on industry trends, high-risk categories, fraud patterns, and regulatory updates.
- Support ongoing merchant monitoring, re-underwriting, or escalated risk reviews as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in underwriting, credit risk, or merchant acquiring. Experience in high-risk industries is a plus.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Visa/Mastercard rules, KYC/AML standards, and NACHA or PCI compliance is strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Attention to detail and ability to detect fraud/red flags
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Proficiency in Excel, underwriting platforms, and CRM tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with boarding platforms (e.g., EPX, Fiserv, Tsys, or similar)
- Knowledge of payment gateways, ACH processing, and risk scoring tools
Job Types: Part-time, Fresh graduate
Pay: Php20,000.00 - Php30,000.00 per month
Expected hours: 10 – 30 per week
