BASIC FUNCTIONS
The Phlebotomist extracts blood samples from patients and prepares necessary requisition of supplies and stocks as required in the area under the supervision of the Medical Technologist and Laboratory Section Head.
Education : A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (underboard)
Experience : At least one (1) year experience in the laboratory Hospital/Clinical setting
License : Registered with the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) Board of
Medical Technology as Laboratory Technician (preferably)
Training : Phlebotomy Training conducted by DOH accredited institution,
Customer Service Training
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Collects blood samples from patients.
- Practices proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors and other areas.
- Labels vials with patient names and dates after extraction.
- Transports all specimen samples to the required sections of the laboratory for processing.
- Works subtly and confidently with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
- Extends friendliness, courtesy, and sympathy when it comes to working with patients.
- Keeps the phlebotomy cart or station well-organized at all times.
- Practices infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.
- Follows hospital and laboratory policies and procedures strictly.
- Answers queries regarding preparations on blood extractions such as fasting and related inquiries.
- Relieves the Laboratory Assistant as deemed necessary.
- Attends home services calls.
- Attends the department’s regular meeting and participates in any of the department’s activities.
- Attends training programs and learning sessions for the enhancement of professional, technical, and personal proficiencies.
