Job Description – Purchaser (Food) (Grocery)
The Purchaser (Food) is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and maintaining the availability of grocery and food items to ensure store shelves are well-stocked and meet customer demand. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating prices, monitoring inventory levels, and coordinating with store managers to forecast purchasing needs. The Purchaser ensures quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of products while adhering to company policies and food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase food and grocery items from approved suppliers.
- Negotiate with vendors for the best pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
- Work closely with store managers and other departments to identify purchasing needs.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and company purchasing guidelines.
- Prepare and maintain accurate purchasing records and reports.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in purchasing, preferably in grocery or food retail.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality standards is an advantage.
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work under pressure.
