Position Summary:
A laboratory analyst is primarily responsible for performing a wide range of chemical analyses of various samples based on established standard procedures and test methods. Furthermore, they are responsible for submitting test results, maintaining the cleanliness of workspaces, controlling laboratory environment, receiving, and preparing samples, performing verification of measuring instruments, updating chemical and equipment inventory, reporting non-conforming incidents requiring corrective actions, and other special technical tasks required as part of laboratory operations.
KEY RESULT AREAS
1. Volume and Revenue
a. Strictly follow/observe good laboratory practices and adhere to company policies, good manufacturing processes, good laboratory practices, good manufacturing practices, sanitation and standard operating procedures, and safety and quality standards.
b. Receives samples and performs routine physicochemical analyses including but not limited to:
o Virgin Coconut Oil (In-process, Finished product and Shelf-Life Study)
-Sensory evaluation, moisture, color, Percent Free Fatty Acid, Peroxide value, turbidity, temperature
o Coconut Water Concentrate (In processed, Finished Product and Shelf-Life Study)
-Sensory evaluation, Brix, pH, Titrable Acidity, turbidity
o Coconut Milk and Coconut Cream (In-process, Finished Product and Shelf-Life Study)
-Sensory evaluation, Fat, Total solids, oil content, pH
o In process samples Cleaning in place and cleaning out of place
c. Performs sampling and analysis of incoming raw materials (moisture and oil content).
d. Performs verification of measuring instruments (pH meter, analytical and top-loading balances, Near Infrared Spectrophotometer, turbidity meters, etc.) while keeping records updated.
2. Profitability and Liquidity
a. Immediately reports non-conforming events/incidents to the Laboratory Supervisor for verification and corrective actions
b. Conducts laboratory equipment/instrument cleaning and maintenance.
c. Records status of laboratory equipment and consumption of chemicals and reports to Laboratory supervisor for repair of equipment or replacement of chemicals.
d. Contribute to writing of work instructions, procedures, protocols and analytical methods and laboratory procedures related to Quality Assurance.
3. Effectiveness and Efficiency
a. Assists the laboratory supervisor in performing product specific laboratory technical tasks (ex. re/calibration and re/validation of Near Infrared Spectrophotometer, method validation, etc).
b. Prepare and analyze potential buyer representation and third-party analysis samples.
c. Coordinates with production regarding concerns in product quality and safety.
d. Assists and guide the Laboratory assistant in proper cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory
4. Culture Formation and People Development
a. Co-accountable for inculcating quality, food safety, and legal standards in the company culture.
b. Coordinates with QA In-line Inspector and/or production Supervisor as top the results of in-lines testing.
5. Business Expansion
a. Performs special analyses required for product development or process improvement.
6. Other tasks that may be assigned from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS
1. At least 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience, in a manufacturing industry
2. Graduate of Bachelor of Chemistry, Biology, Food Technology, or other science related courses.
3. Preferably registered chemist or chemical technician.
4. Computer literate with adequate skills
5. Strong planning, organizing, interpersonal, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills.
6. Willingness to learn and highly trainable.
