The Machinist is responsible for the set up and operation of a variety of machine tools/ equipment to produce precision parts and instruments. This includes precision instrument fabrication, modification, or repair of mechanical instruments. This may also include fabrication and modification of parts to make or repair tools/ equipment or tools needed to maintain industrial machines. The application of knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures are often used.
