Job Description
The Data Governance – Metadata Manager is accountable for driving the discovery, maintenance, and strategic use of metadata across the organization, with a core responsibility of enabling and sustaining the Enterprise Data Catalog.
This role supports Globe’s enterprise data governance goals by ensuring that metadata is curated, trusted, and embedded into data lifecycle processes—making data assets findable, understandable, and usable across business and technical teams.
Working closely with Data Owners, Stewards, Architects, and Analysts, the manager establishes metadata policies, standards, and processes to improve enterprise-wide data visibility, traceability, and stewardship. The role bridges business and technical perspectives to ensure metadata drives data quality, regulatory compliance, and analytics enablement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Metadata & Catalog Management
- Drive the implementation, operationalization, and continuous improvement of the Enterprise Data Catalog—ensuring critical data assets are discoverable, well-documented, and consistently enriched with business and technical metadata.
- Define metadata standards, naming conventions, and data documentation practices aligned with Globe’s enterprise architecture and data governance framework.
- Collaborate with system owners, analysts, and data engineers to establish and maintain data lineage, enhancing traceability from source to report.
- Oversee metadata onboarding for new systems and major enhancements, compliance of data models to Globe's Enterprise Data Model (GEDM), ensuring consistent tagging, classification, and stewardship assignments in the catalog.
- Define and enforce metadata governance policies and curation workflows across lines of business.
Process Enablement
- Develop and implement metadata management procedures that span the full data lifecycle—from data creation to archival or deletion.
- Integrate metadata and data catalog adoption into key governance activities such as data quality monitoring, impact analysis, and issue resolution.
- Partner with IT and analytics teams to establish data profiling, business glossary management, and reference data integration using the catalog platform.
Business Partnership
- Represent metadata interests in the Data Governance Council, reporting adoption metrics, catalog engagement, and metadata-driven insights for issue resolution and process improvements.
- Promote business user enablement through training and targeted support for catalog usage—improving data discovery and accelerating analytics and compliance activities.
- Collaborate with Data Owners and Stewards to ensure consistent definitions, classifications, and stewardship assignments in the catalog.
People & Change Management
- Champion a data-literate culture by leading enterprise-wide training on catalog usage, data definitions, and lineage awareness.
- Provide mentoring and hands-on guidance to data stewards and analysts on metadata best practices.
- Lead working groups or task forces to accelerate the adoption of metadata and catalog governance, especially in support of strategic initiatives (e.g., SCI, CDOM, Billing Modernization).
REQUIREMENTS
Must Have:
- 3–5 years of experience in metadata management, data catalog administration, or enterprise data governance.
- Proven experience driving adoption of enterprise metadata tools (e.g., DataHub, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Atlan, etc.).
- 3 years of experience in data profiling, data lineage, or information architecture roles.
- Deep understanding of metadata types (technical, business, operational, governance) and their integration across platforms.
- Familiarity with SQL and data modeling techniques to support catalog curation and lineage tracing.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, policies, and metadata’s role in compliance, analytics, and operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
Nice to Have:
- Experience implementing metadata strategy within telecom or other data-intensive industries.
- Experience working with Master Data, Data Quality, or Data Integration in conjunction with metadata.
- Certification in relevant tools (e.g., Collibra Ranger, Informatica Metadata Manager) or governance frameworks (e.g., DCAM, DAMA-DMBOK).
