Responsibilities
- Project planning and execution: They plan, schedule and implement electrical projects from inception to completion. This includes determining project requirements, setting deadlines, estimating costs and coordinating with other departments or contractors.
- Electrician and technician supervision: They manage and oversee electricians and electrical technicians to ensure accurate, safe and on-schedule task completion. This includes assigning tasks, monitoring progress, providing guidance and addressing issues or concerns.
- Safety compliance and risk management: An electrical supervisor ensures all work complies with safety regulations and company policies. This involves conducting regular safety inspections, identifying potential hazards, implementing safety procedures and training staff.
- Quality control: They maintain the quality of electrical work by conducting regular inspections. This helps them ensure installations and repairs meet industry standards and client specifications and troubleshoot any issues that occur.
- Maintenance and repair: An electrical supervisor oversees routine and preventive maintenance tasks and electrical system and equipment repairs. They identify and resolve problems quickly to minimise downtime, and disruption.
- Documentation and record keeping: They maintain accurate records of all electrical work, including blueprints, schematics, maintenance logs and inspection reports. This documentation is helpful for future reference, troubleshooting and compliance.
- Budgeting and cost control: They manage budgets and control costs. This involves monitoring expenses, negotiating with suppliers and contractors, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs.
- Communication and collaboration: An electrical supervisor maintains open lines of communication with team members, clients and management to ensure that projects run smoothly, and meet expectations. They also collaborate with other departments and contractors as needed.
