About the Role
An oncology nurse is a specialized healthcare professional who works with adults and children affected by cancer. Oncology nurses can find employment in healthcare settings where patients are treated for cancer, including hospitals, private clinics, cancer centers, surgical centers and military services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborating with the oncology team and attending team meetings
- Creating patient-specific care plans and organizing referrals to other healthcare professionals as identified in the plan
- Discussing health history with patients to determine all relevant factors.
- Monitoring patient status both physically and emotionally
- Providing patient care and symptom management
- Administering chemotherapy and ensuring that the correct drug, dose and route is used for the patient.
- Following procedures for safe handling of chemotherapeutic agents
- Ordering chemotherapy and other supplies
- Understanding how to manage side effects such as nausea and fatigue and any possible allergic reactions patients may experience
- Taking part in clinical trials and research for new treatment agents or improving treatment protocols for existing agents
- Following departmental policies, procedures, standards and objectives to deliver excellent patient care
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is the standard requirement
- Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (PNLE) Passer
- Attending relevant conferences, seminars and continuing education events
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Knowledge of oncology treatment procedures, facilities and equipment.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to perform nursing assessments and patient triage.
- Knowledge of supportive care principles and techniques for oncology patients.
- Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From Php28,000.00 per month
