Summary of Position:
PET/CT Radiologic Technologists are highly skilled professionals and foremost duty is to perform body scanning to check for areas showing signs of abnormality. After performing these tasks, they hand over the findings to physicians who in turn check the patient’s condition with the help of these recorded images. PET/CT Radiologic Technologists also keep a track of safety measures to protect patients while performing scans. The reason to be careful or considering safety measures is that patients and operators are constantly exposed to rays. To safeguard, PET Technologists have to make sure that the equipment is in a proper working condition by examining and inspect machines carefully and routinely. This role may require working in shifts, so flexibility is a plus.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Interview Technologist
a. Verify patient’s identity correctly.
b. Takes medical history, summarizes data and states nursing diagnoses or patient care needs.
c. Observes and records signs, symptoms, and behavior including physiological and mental status of patients, presents the assessment of changes, the proposed revision of interventions and desired outcomes.
d. Demonstrates the ability to assess patients understanding and compliance with instructions and health care teachings.
e. Review physician’s order and/or patient’s request to determine the exact procedure. (e.g. plain or with contrast media, type of contrast media, etc.)
f. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during procedures.
g. Ask patient for phobias and its capability to comply the position.
h. Assess patient’s indwelling peripheral tubing (e.g. catheter, colostomy bag, oxygen, etc.)
i. Obtain and interpret laboratory data, pathology reports when available, review of preparations and medication, pertinent vital signs.
j. Discuss with patients and relatives the potential side effects of the contrast media or the radioactive pharmaceutical and what must be done after the procedure.
k. Assess patients’ tolerability of the procedure and must obtain a secured consent on behalf of the medical team
l. Responsible for securing patient’s or patient’s authorized representative consent before any steps necessary for procedure is done.
m. Check patient Capillary Blood Glucose before the start of procedure.
n. Perform other duties as needed and deemed necessary by the supervisor.
2. Scanning Technologist
a. Performs quality control of PET/CT camera prior the start of procedures.
b. Prepare and ensure new linen, blanket, and specific apparatus needed for the procedure per patient.
c. Explain the procedure to the patient and direct to remove any metallic accessories, change diaper if there is any, drain excretion containers attached to the patient that may cause image artifacts.
d. Notes any specific patient comments which might indicate the need for additional images or might be useful to the physician in interpreting the results of the procedure.
e. Transfer, position and instruct the patient accordingly, and give breathing instruction.
f. Perform patient imaging procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation
g. Perform standard protocol of PET/CT examination in accordance to each individual’s case
h. Assists the radiologic technologist in patient positioning and scanning, in scan images processing and release.
i. Accomplish computer processing and image enhancement.
j. Provide images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
k. Send to MIWP and MMWP for doctor’s viewing
l. Select technical factor (kvp & mAs) to provide quality image with an optimum use of radiation.
m. Assists the nurse in administering radiographic contrast media using the automatic injector
n. Knowledgeable on the basic functions of machine and troubleshooting
o. Able to determine acute allergic reaction from the administration of contrast media co-managed by PET/CT Nurse.
p. Checks the reconstruction of images if completely uploaded.
q. Seeks the physician’s call for additional scan before advising the patient to go home.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Php22,000.00 - Php25,000.00 per month
