JOB SUMMARY
The Plant Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the chicken dressing facility. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of power distribution, control panels, motors, lighting, and automated machinery critical to poultry processing, cold storage, and packaging operations. The electrician conducts routine inspections, diagnoses electrical faults, and performs corrective actions in compliance with food safety, workplace safety, and regulatory standards. The position requires technical expertise in industrial electrical systems, a proactive approach to minimizing downtime, and the ability to support continuous plant operations in a high-demand, hygiene-sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical System Maintenance
a) Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, including motors, conveyors, chillers, and lighting specific to poultry processing operations.
b) Identify and repair faults in wiring, control panels, and automated processing equipment such as evisceration and deboning machines.
c) Ensure all electrical components operate efficiently and safely to maintain hygiene and production standards.
- Installation and Commissioning
d) Install new electrical systems and poultry processing equipment (e.g., scalders, pluckers, refrigeration units) in accordance with technical specifications and food safety requirements.
e) Assist in the commissioning and testing of newly installed systems to ensure operational readiness.
f) Interpret electrical schematics and blueprints, especially for equipment integrated with water, steam, and pneumatic systems.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs
a) Diagnose electrical issues using appropriate testing tools and techniques, focusing on minimizing downtime in critical processing areas.
b) Execute corrective actions to restore functionality of equipment such as portioning machines, vacuum pumps, and packaging lines.
c) Document repair activities and update maintenance logs to support traceability and compliance.
- Compliance and Safety
a) Adhere to electrical codes, food industry safety standards, and company policies, including HACCP and GMP protocols.
b) Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe working conditions during electrical work in wet and cold environments.
c) Participate in safety audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical safety and plant reliability.
- Support for Plant Operations
a) Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to minimize disruptions during slaughtering, chilling, and packing processes.
b) Provide technical support during equipment upgrades or modifications, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
c) Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and operational issues to maintain production flow and product quality.
- Inventory and Documentation
a) Maintain inventory of electrical tools, parts, and supplies, including specialized components for poultry processing equipment.
b) Keep accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections for internal audits and regulatory compliance.
c) Assist in preparing reports for management and regulatory bodies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Labor or Food Safety authorities.

d) Based at the Poultry Dressing Plant with occasional travel to other facilities if required.
e) Standard working hours with flexibility required based on operational needs, including occasional overtime, evening, or weekend work shifts during peak seasons or for urgent projects occasionally overtime.
f) The role demands adherence to strict health and safety protocols and involves occasional physical activity, such as standing, walking, and interacting with equipment. It also involves working in a plant environment with exposure to processing equipment and temperature-controlled areas.
g) Occasional weekend or evening work may be necessary to meet operational demands or special projects.
Key Competencies:
1. Preventive Maintenance: Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques for poultry processing equipment, utilities (e.g., water pumps, air compressors), and electrical tools to minimize downtime and ensure consistent production flow.
2. Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical systems and machinery used in chicken dressing operations, including scalders, pluckers, conveyors, chillers, and automated cutting and packaging equipment.
3. Project Management: Ability to support and oversee CAPEX projects involving electrical installations and upgrades, ensuring alignment with plant timelines, food safety standards, and operational scope.
4. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Quick identification of electrical faults in production lines and implementation of corrective measures to restore functionality with minimal disruption to slaughtering, evisceration, and chilling processes.
5. Compliance and Safety Management: Knowledge of industry safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP) and regulatory compliance related to electrical systems, machinery, and environmental impact in food processing environments.
6. Cost Management: Ability to manage electrical maintenance budgets, control spare parts inventory, and ensure efficient use of resources without compromising equipment reliability or safety.
7. Process Improvement: Constantly seeking ways to improve equipment uptime, energy efficiency, and overall plant safety through innovative electrical solutions and collaboration with production and maintenance teams.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering or technical field. Must be TESDA or PRC License.
2. At least 3 years of experience in engineering or maintenance within a manufacturing, food, or poultry processing environment.
3. Strong knowledge of poultry processing equipment, utilities, refrigeration systems (e.g., blast freezing and cold storage), and maintenance best practices.
4. Experience in handling projects, implementing process improvements, and supporting environmental management initiatives.
5. Solid understanding of workplace safety, environmental regulations, and food safety standards such as HACCP and GMP.
6. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly in managing unplanned downtime and electrical emergencies.
7. Knowledge of energy management, waste reduction, and sustainability practices is a plus.
8. Proficiency in maintenance management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools for documentation and reporting.
9. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
