The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by implementing and monitoring health and safety programs and policies in compliance with legal requirements and industry standards. This role involves conducting risk assessments, safety audits, training programs, and ensuring corrective actions are taken to maintain a culture of safety throughout the organization.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Create, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs to promote a safe work environment.
- Perform regular hazard and risk assessments across the workplace to identify potential safety issues and recommend preventive measures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions, drills, and toolbox meetings for employees and contractors.
- Perform regular site inspections and internal audits to ensure safe work practices are being followed and safety equipment is functional.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures; conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.
- Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, permits, and other safety documentation.
- Monitor the proper use and availability of PPE, ensuring employees are equipped according to job requirements.
- Work closely with all departments to promote a proactive safety culture and implement company-wide safety improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification as SO3
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in a safety-related role.
- Familiarity with safety legislation and procedures.
- Strong communication, training, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software is a plus.
