Job Description
The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.
OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Safety Officer (Exploration) who will ensure the safe execution of Mineral Exploration and Drilling activities. In addition, the successful candidate will ensure compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines, advise and report on safety topics, conducts risk assessments, and enforce preventative measures to create a safe workplace across all of our exploration projects. The role is Fixed Term, Didipio Mine-based and reports to the Superintendent - Exploration.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Support Mineral Exploration and Drilling activities
- Ensuring a safe work environment and keeping our people safe
- Ensure compliance with MGB regulatory requirements
- Assist in the planning of PHMP Audits, monitor all actions and opportunities for improvement, and ensure all PHMP-related documents are updated;
- Lead and implement a system of inspection to detect all hazards of the operation and report or inform (to) all concerned of all safety and health hazards;
- Monitor and plan actions for the attainment of Didipio Mine Occupational Safety objectives and targets, and compliance with OGC Safety Standards;
- Implement the Permit to Work system including the training and assessment required;
- Ensure incidents are properly reported, documented, and investigated to prevent a recurrence;
- Ensure the timely and effective completion of safety tasks, objectives, and targets;
- Ensure good relationships with regulators such as with MGB;
- Prepare daily reports of inspection and informing the department heads' concern and union/employees’ representative on the places inspected as to ventilation, sanitation, unsafe acts/conditions, and working procedures;
- Assist the training team in providing the employees and contractors with accident prevention and other safety-related training
- Assist in recommending, implementing, and complying with the safety and health programs in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by MGB
- Preparation, review, and submission in a timely manner of a comprehensive Annual Health and Safety Program to MGB including other relevant OHS reports for DOLE & MGB
- Assist in the effective implementation and continual improvement of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System; and
- Ensure the effective implementation of ISO 45001 Internal Audits.
Qualifications
- Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way
- Graduate of any Engineering related courses
- With three (3) years of experience in a Mining operation and/or mine safety works
- With one (1) year of experience in ISO 14001, 45001, 50001, or 9001 Management Systems establishment and implementation work
- With previous accreditation under MGB and/or DOLE as Safety Inspector/Officer
- Completed forty (40) hours of Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training
- Computer literate and with good presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both verbal and written;
- With a valid Professional Driver’s License
