Job Description
We are seeking a Security Data Engineer to drive the automation of our data pipelines, dashboards, and reporting infrastructure across a diverse set of security data sources. In this role, you will play a critical part in reducing manual effort, increasing data reliability, and delivering timely, actionable insights to security teams and stakeholders.
Your Key Tasks:
Automation & Engineering
- Automate end-to-end data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes from a variety of sources including databases, APIs, and third-party tools (e.g., Splunk, Tenable).
- Build and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant pipelines to collect, normalize, and enrich security data.
- Develop event-driven and scheduled data workflows to ensure timely delivery of critical security metrics and insights.
- Build automated classifiers, scoring systems, or recommendation engines that support threat detection, vulnerability management, or incident prioritization.
- Use large language models (LLMs) or embeddings where appropriate to enrich and interpret semi-structured log data.
Reporting & Dashboards
- Automate the generation and deployment of interactive dashboards and reports using tools like Apache Superset, Grafana, or similar.
- Ensure reports are updated in near real-time and designed to scale with growing data volumes.
Analysis & Insights
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to detect patterns, anomalies, and trends in security data.
- Translate complex datasets into automated alerts, metrics, and recommendations that support incident response and threat detection.
Stakeholder Enablement
- Collaborate with engineers, security teams, and internal stakeholders to identify manual reporting tasks that can be automated or streamlined.
- Customize automation solutions to align with stakeholder needs and business goals.
Documentation & Governance
- Maintain clear, version-controlled documentation of data sources, ETL pipelines, and automation logic.
- Ensure automation processes meet internal security, compliance, and data governance standards.
Qualifications
Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI/ML, or Information Security.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or backend development with hands-on automation experience.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Python and/or Go, with experience building scalable data systems and automation scripts.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and pipeline orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
- Familiarity with ML tools (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, or LLM APIs) and their application to structured data.
- Experience with security data sources (e.g., SIEMs, vulnerability scanners) and cloud platforms (OCI, AWS, Azure).
- Comfortable with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes).
Security & AI Awareness
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and common data patterns in threat detection and response.
- Experience applying AI/ML in security contexts (e.g., anomaly detection, risk scoring, log classification) is a strong plus.
Soft Skills
- Clear communicator able to bridge the gap between technical implementation and stakeholder needs.
- Passionate about automation, clean design, and applying intelligent systems to solve real-world problems.
