Key Responsibilities:
The Advisor Urban Programming Specialist works closely with the Technical Director to progress WV’s Transformational Development mandate in urban contexts, stable and fragile. The Specialist Advisor is responsible for equipping the Partnership with urban programming capabilities to improve our impact on the most vulnerable children, youth and families in urban contexts. This role involves leading regional and field offices' FO/RO engagement in learning and capacity building processes as well as working with multiple global teams to ensure alignment between urban programming and other key priority thematic areas within the organization.
Preferred locations in: Asia, Africa, Latin America and Middle East Europe
Major Responsibilities
Provide urban programming technical capabilities’ development across the WV Partnership in collaboration with field and regional offices and technical / thematic areas’ experts (40%).
Support the promotion and integration of urban programming through WV’s offices strategies, technical programming and resourcing plans (35%)
Coordinate the evidence, learning and knowledge management for urban programming (25%)
Required Education, training, certification and experience
A minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) with specialization in sustainable urban development, urban planning, international development, social studies, or similar
Experience living/working in urban contexts including at least 5 years of technical experience in areas related to urban programming, including in fragile cities
Strong familiarity and experience with the World Vision programming models and tools used in urban contexts
Experience in urban programs design, implementation and evaluation.
Experience communicating World Vision’s Christian identity in conflict-prone inter-religious contexts.
Experience in training and capacity building

Urban champion initiative graduate
Strong understanding of the urban development and humanitarian industry and key global urban players
Experience of working with urban communities in stable and fragile developing countries, especially on issues of climate change, urban conflicts and displacement
Strong ability to work autonomously

Strong analytical, organizational, coordination, planning, facilitation skills
Strong negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills
Strategic thinking and analytical skills
Demonstrated collaboration skills and effective relationship management skills
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, command of additional languages is desirable
Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) or recognized equivalent security training; this can be completed after the successful candidate begins the new role
Facilitation ability and leadership in another language preferred (e.g. Spanish, French, Arabic)
Travel and/or work environment expectations
The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time, including per travel to conflict and violence-affected cities.
