Tax Manager
WHAT IS THIS ROLE ABOUT?
The Tax Manager is responsible for implementing the local tax strategy for both the market and GBS, ensuring alignment with the global tax strategy, policies, and procedures. This role oversees the overall tax compliance, manages tax risks, and ensures the tax health of the local entities. It involves providing sound tax advice on business transactions, projects, and planning initiatives, while identifying and mitigating potential tax risks.
The Tax Manager also handles local transfer pricing documentation and maintains tax manuals. A key part of the role is managing tax audits, litigations, and refund processes, serving as the primary contact for local tax authorities prior to escalation.
Additionally, the Tax Manager works closely with the PH Tax Director in representing the company before national authorities, monitoring regulatory changes, assessing their business impact, and leading the implementation of necessary actions.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Manage the full cycle of local and national tax compliance, including filings, payments, permits, and tax return submissions for both the market and GBS.
- Oversee tax disclosures in audited financial statements submitted to the SEC.
- Ensure compliance with international tax reporting requirements such as Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) and Joint Controlled Foreign Corporation (JCFC) filings.
- Handle tax provisioning and reporting of uncertain tax positions.
- Support the accounting close process and tax forecasting activities.
Audit & Risk Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for local tax authorities on all matters prior to escalation to the PH Tax Director.
- Manage external and internal tax audits (including JSOX), tax litigations, and refund processes.
- Conduct proactive tax health checks, compliance risk reviews, and investigations of major issues.
- Implement post-audit findings into operational improvements and continuous tax training.
- Maintain audit defense documentation and ensure proper record retention.
- Monitor developments in local tax regulations, assess their business impact, and manage related implementation and communication.
Advisory & Planning
- Provide tax advice on local transactions, projects, and cross-functional business planning.
- Support strategic decision-making by identifying and mitigating tax risks and maximizing available incentives.
- Partner with internal stakeholders on business development initiatives to ensure tax-aligned outcomes.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of tax manuals, including those for direct and indirect taxes and local transfer pricing documentation.
Process Improvement & Digitalization
- Identify inefficiencies or gaps in tax-related systems and business processes, and implement improvements or automation solutions.
- Drive the adoption of digital initiatives mandated by local authorities.
- Oversee relationships with external consultants to ensure effective use and alignment with business objectives.
- Support continuous improvements in tax operations and internal controls, contributing to a culture of compliance and efficiency.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, with CPA certification.
- At least 5 years of managerial experience in a tax role within a multinational FMCG company or Big 4 advisory firm.
- In-depth knowledge of local tax regulations and related agencies (BIR, BOC, PEZA, LGU).
- Familiarity with tax audits, litigation, and refund management is preferred.
- Strong understanding of cross-border taxation, transfer pricing, and business structuring.
- Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to connect details to broader business context.
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and relevant tax or reporting systems.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt in a dynamic environment.
