Job Overview: The Accounting Associate is responsible for supporting the overall accounting operations within the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This position requires strong attention to detail, proficiency with accounting software, and a solid understanding of general accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting Tasks:
- Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Process journal entries and conduct regular account reconciliations.
- Monitor and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
Accounts Payable:
- Process and verify vendor invoices for payment, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
- Prepare and issue customer invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Reconcile accounts payable to ensure consistency and completeness of records.
Bank Reconciliation:
- Reconcile bank statements with internal accounting records to verify accuracy.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies between bank and internal records.
Payroll Processing:
- Assist with payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate payment of wages.
- Calculate payroll taxes, deductions, and contributions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Ensure the timely filing of payroll taxes and other statutory obligations.
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Prepare and submit tax documentation and filings within the required timeframes.
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and work with external accountants as needed.
Audit Support:
- Provide necessary documentation and assistance to both internal and external auditors.
- Ensure all financial records are organized, accurate, and readily available for audit purposes.
Systems Management:
- Accurately input accounting data into the financial management system.
- Assist with the management and maintenance of accounting software to ensure data integrity.
- Recommend improvements for accounting systems and processes when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in an accounting associate capacity.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with regular office hours.
- Occasional overtime may be required during peak periods (e.g., month-end, year-end, tax season).
