Job Summary:
As a Kitchen Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations of the kitchen, maintaining food quality and consistency, managing kitchen staff, and overseeing inventory and cost control. You will work closely with the Restaurant Manager and the culinary leadership team to uphold Mama Lou's commitment to excellent food and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead kitchen staff in food preparation and production
- Ensure all dishes are prepared consistently, according to recipe and presentation standards
- Manage inventory levels, ordering, and food cost targets
- Enforce proper food handling, sanitation, and safety protocols (DOH, HACCP standards)
- Coordinate with front-of-house managers to meet service expectations
- Train, mentor, and evaluate kitchen staff performance
- Address kitchen staffing needs and scheduling
- Monitor equipment maintenance and kitchen cleanliness
- Assist in menu planning and new dish testing
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef, or similar role in a full-service restaurant
- Solid understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and cost control
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards during peak service hours
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Culinary training/certification is a plus
