Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented AutoCAD Drafter (Junior Estimator) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong architectural background, hands-on drafting experience, and a growing understanding of quantity takeoffs and cost estimation. You will support both design development and pre-construction planning by producing accurate CAD drawings, material takeoffs, and assisting with project bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed 2D shop drawings with multiple views using AutoCAD, based on architectural and field sketches.
- Draft using the American measurement system and ensure compatibility with fabrication capabilities and limitations.
- Interpret and pull fabrication requirements from specification books to guide kitchen layout designs.
- Maintain and continuously improve the AutoCAD block library, ensuring consistency and clarity across projects.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with project managers regarding field conditions and updates.
- Provide technical support to field installers and shop personnel by preparing clear, accurate, and accessible documentation.
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and basic estimation tasks, documenting materials and specs needed for bidding and costing.
- Maintain organized digital files and project records, including drawings, RFIs, revisions, and approvals.
- Support general administrative functions, such as data entry, report preparation, schedule tracking, and cross-team follow-ups.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 3+ years of recent AutoCAD experience, especially in producing technical shop drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, architectural drawings, and specifications.
- Strong mathematical skills for computing dimensions and accurate drafting.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proactive, dependable, and a self-starter with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Comfortable with administrative responsibilities such as record-keeping, filing, and document coordination.
- Experience with sheet metal or kitchen design is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of the food service industry and fabrication standards is beneficial.
- Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D software is highly preferred but not required.
