Kitchen Staff/Cook (Chinese cuisine)

A Kitchen Staff/Cook in a Chinese cuisine setting assists with various tasks to support the cooks and ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen. This includes preparing ingredients, maintaining cleanliness, and handling equipment. They may also be involved in stocking supplies and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are met. Specific tasks may include:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Preparing ingredients: Washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables, meats, and other food items.
• Assisting with cooking: Helping with basic cooking tasks, such as stir-frying or steaming, as directed by the chef.
• Maintaining cleanliness: Sweeping and mopping floors, washing dishes, and cleaning kitchen equipment.
• Stocking supplies: Ensuring the kitchen is adequately stocked with necessary ingredients and supplies.
• Following food safety and sanitation guidelines: Adhering to proper food handling and storage procedures.
• Working as part of a team: Cooperating with other kitchen staff and communicating effectively with the cooks.
• Operating kitchen equipment: Familiarity with woks, steamers, and other specialized tools used in Chinese cooking.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required, with culinary training or certifications in Chinese cuisine being advantageous.
• Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen, particularly in a Chinese restaurant, is often preferred.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with kitchen equipment and basic cooking techniques, especially those used in Chinese cuisine.
• Other Skills: Strong work ethic, ability to follow instructions, and good communication skills.
