Job Description
The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.
OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable Superintendent - Construction (3-year fixed term), who will mentor and monitor construction work groups to ensure compliance with Didipio Operation’s HSE Policies and Procedures, coordinate site construction activities to minimize their effect on Operations, ensure construction activities are completed to scope, on time and within budget and ensure project reporting is carried out as per the requirements of the Construction Superintendent. This role will report to the Manager – Capital Projects.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Accountable for the safety and health performance of all construction personnel on-site
- Ensure all incidents are reported via line management and ensure open communication is maintained for all HS&E information
- Ensure company Safety Management Systems are included in any review or development of Construction documentation
- Assist the Manager Capital Projects in identifying resource skills and opportunities within the Capital Projects team to execute tasks and act as the liaison with these resources to initiate and manage the Capital works being undertaken
- Participate in Schedule and Estimate development for Capital Works
- Participate in the design review process, focusing on implementation and constructability issues
- Maintain daily records of works management, including incidents, progress, delays and the achievement of milestones. Ensure the Manager Capital Projects is promptly informed of all relevant matters and developments associated with construction activities and site works management
- Assist in the development of detailed schedules for any tie-in or plant shutdowns that effect Production
- Take charge and directly manage site activities for critical tie-in or plant shutdowns that effect Production
- Actively participates in works under area of control to ensure no impact on the critical path of the schedule
- Have a detailed understanding of the budget allocation for the Construction Works being undertaken
- Ensure AFEs and/or Professional Service Agreements and/or Contracts and/or Purchase Orders are in place and up to date with the correct approvals in place prior to work being undertaken
- Ensure all activities within area of control are completed to the specifications nominated for the works being undertaken
- Ensure all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end-user’s requirements
Qualifications
- Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way
- 5+ years of Project Construction experience
- Expertise in civil and SMP (structural, mechanical, piping) disciplines
- Candidates must have prior construction experience
- Engineering Degree (or similar relevant tertiary qualification).
- Formal training or Qualifications in MS Project desirable
- Advanced professional report writing and cost reporting ability
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office, including MSProject or Primavera
- Promotes high levels of accountability and employee empowerment
- Committed to continuously improving the safe and efficient operation of the mine
- Acts with a sense of urgency when troubleshooting and resolving problems
- This role requires regular physical activity, occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds, and the ability to work in a mining environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity
- Amenable to 3-year fixed term
