The Trainer, Medical Coding, is responsible for conducting medical coding education for new and existing medical coders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in developing modules for medical coding and billing training (ICD 10 CM, CPT, E/M coding, Business of Medicine, Edit Resolution, and Revenue Cycle Management)
- Develops curriculum and training syllabus related to coding and billing training programs including but not limited to Periodic Updates, Policy updates, Peripherals of RCM, and Med- Metrix Learning Academy.
- Maintains knowledge of ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Updates existing training modules
- Develops and produces materials for inpatient medical coding exercises, assessment, and qualifying examination.
- Consolidates coder scores from quizzes, exams and assessments and present consolidated data during weekly meetings.
- Maintains certifications of the staff by providing continuing education units
- Provides training and review for onboarding coders and refresher training for tenured coders.
- Disseminates changes and updates in guidelines and rules.
- Collaborates with all workgroups to resolve issues that impact internal and external customers.
- Possesses knowledge of, understanding of, and compliance with all Med-Metrix policies and procedures.
- Participates in monthly calibration training.
- Create assessments to check learnings from calibration training.
- Consolidates coder scores from calibration assessment and present consolidated data to operations.
- Assists QA Supervisor and QATM with account launch for launching accounts.
- Provide support and feedback for TNA, RCA, and educational note creation for QA Team.
- Audits QA staff to monitor their respective coding and auditing accuracy.
- Graduate of any Medical or Allied Medical course or has equivalent work experience.
- CPC certification from AAPC or CCS certification from AHIMA
- Proficient with Revenue Cycle Management, E/M and Procedure Coding.
- Ability to work in a team fostered environment and have the willingness to adjust to changing job responsibilities, shifting schedules, new procedures and unexpected workloads and stresses.
- Possess strong verbal, written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours.
- Assertive self-starter who can work independently, yet function in a team environment.
- Ability to plan well and prioritize work and maintain calmness under pressure.
